Learning Communities

First Year Learning Communities 2018-2019

Students who choose learning communities are more likely to enjoy school, to succeed, and to graduate.

From the day you move to campus to Commencement, you’ll find it easier to take an active role in your learning and your future when you participate in a learning community.  Participants have significantly higher cumulative grade point averages, more likely to graduate in four-years, have more meaningful interactions with faculty, and report a greater satisfaction with their overall college experience.

There are day-to-day benefits as well, like co-enrollment in core courses together with your learning community cohort, ready-made study groups, and social events.  You also have the opportunity to be part of a service project.

Join a community that supports your academic success and eases your transition to college life. You’ll have all the advantages of a small campus learning environment with all the resources of one of Minnesota’s outstanding larger universities.

Everyone in your group must also pay for and complete a Fitness Assessment before the first session of SGPT.

All participants in SGPT must be current students or members of the Otto Recreation Center.  A membership for non-students may be purchased online.

Once we receive verification of your payment of a SGPT and Fitness Assessment, if applicable, we will contact you by email during regular business hours (M-F, 8am-5pm) to set up a time for your fitness assessment, if applicable.

If you are simply purchasing additional SGPT sessions we will inform your trainer. You do not need to complete another Fitness Assessment.

All individual personal training packages and SGPT packages expire one year from purchase date.

Men interested in joining a fraternity at Minnesota State Mankato, who have not already joined a chapter through summer or early Fall recruitment, will want to take advantage of the opportunity provided through Structured Recruitment. Through this process, they will be able to meet members from all of the fraternities on campus and will be able to make a decision about where they best fit. Some chapters will continue to recruit after this process, but some may begin their member education programs and choose not to accept Fall new members after this process. Events begin on Wednesday, September 19, with an optional, but highly-encouraged Fraternity Meet-and-Greet from 7-9 p.m. The actual Structured Recruitment process takes place Thursday-Saturday, September 20-22. Those participating should be available for the whole process. "Bid Day," or the day on which men may actually receive bids, or invitations to join, will be Sunday, September 23. In order to register, you will need both your MSU StarID and your TechID numbers. For further information, contact Sean Lake, VP of Recruitment for the Interfraternity Council, at sean.lake@mnsu.edu.
